On May 1, 1988, the ICE (Inter-City-Experiment), the German Federal Railway System's (DB) newest train addition, set the world speed record of 252 MPH! Seventeen (!) camera teams were on hand to record this historical event from all angles: from the air, inside the high-tech dynamometer car and in the cab.
TGV - Since September 1982 the cities of Paris and Lyon have been linked by the 170 mph "Train a Grande Vitesse" (TGV). As a result of the TGV's great success, the French State Railways, SNCF, decided to develop additional high speed trains and in September 1989 the 185 mph TGV "Atlantique" began its regular service on the route from Paris to the Atlantic coast city of Nantes. This outstanding video presents an in-depth portrait of this supertrain with fascinating shots from the track and from the cab. Included is one-of-a-kind footage of the TGV's new world record at 320 mph! This beats, by a wide margin, the previous world record established less than two years earlier by its arch rival, the legendary German I.C.E. The viewers are also given an opportunity to admire the ultra-modern dispatch office at Paris-Montparnasse, starting point of the TGV "Atlantique".
