In the Cab from Lindau to Munich
Great Railroading in Summer and Winter
Here are two interesting journeys from Lindau to the Bavarian capital of Munich, with a fascinating twist of German rail history. The first route, through Memmingen, was proposed in the 1840s, but not built until 1890. Still today it is a single track line. The second route, through Kempten, was built out of geopolitical considerations, it is double track today.
Along the way are numerous charming German stations, rare âtrackbuses,â and as self-propelled rail cars. At Tarkheim we glimpse the venerable steam engine 41-018.
