Exciting Journey to the Land of Steam
Here are seven steam beauties, lovingly maintained by the German Reichsbahn and operated in regular service in a special week-long festival.
Dresden's magnificent, arching train shed is our point of departure for the Pacific 03-001. Our journey will take us along the countryside through Saxony to Bautzen and Görlitz, plus branch lines around Lube 1.
These shiny locos, resplendent in jet black and crimson, comprise six different wheel configurations of six, eight, and ten driving wheels. Several are tank engines with the tender attached which German railway engineers used frequently in their varied service requirements.
Amidst the beautiful, lush Saxon countryside, the trains are filmed in glorious weather near farms and villages, with the charm of old world architecture everywhere about, a rural setting seemingly from decades ago. The dozens of graceful stone viaducts and bridges carrying these lines are an especially pleasing visual aspect.
Lots of attention is paid to the meticulous care these wonderful machines are given by their dedicated and professional crews. Take pleasure in sharing behind-the-scenes operation on the turntable and in the engine house. You'll have an intimate feeling of those days when steam locomotives roamed the world.
Yes, steam lives in Saxony. See you at the station. Highball!
