Bernina Express – Starting at St. Moritz, Switzerland, the Bernina Express is a unique railroad. Without the use of cogwheels it climbs up into chilly Alpine terrain and then descends into the splendor of sunny Italy; all along this unforgettable route Mother Nature provides exceptionally beautiful contrasts in scenery. The Bernina Express is a brilliant triumph of Swiss engineering: it is the only Swiss railway traversing the Alps “tunnel-less” and also is one of the steepest adhesion railroads in the world: it covers an elevation difference of about 5800 feet within 24 miles! The tracks are laid in such a way as to provide magnificent views of majestic mountain panoramas, emerald Alpine forests, distant glaciers, and a lake where winter rules eight months a year. At journey’s end springtime quickly turns to summer as the Bernina Express enters the beautiful village of Tirano. Come join us on a breathtaking rail journey through the magnificent Swiss Alps...
